Common FAQ

How to Shock a Pool in 4 Easy Steps
  1. Test your water’s pH and chlorine levels using a testing kit.

  2. Add the appropriate amount of shock treatment to your pool based on its size and current condition.

  3. Distribute the shock evenly across the pool surface using a brush or by pouring it around the perimeter.

  4. Allow the shock to circulate and work for several hours or as instructed on the product packaging before swimming.

  • Test your pool water regularly using a testing kit.

  • Adjust pH levels using pH increaser or pH decreaser as needed to maintain a range of 7.2 to 7.6.

  • Add chlorine to your pool using chlorine tablets, liquid chlorine, or a chlorine generator to maintain a level between 1.0 and 3.0 parts per million (ppm).

  • Ensure proper filtration and circulation by running the pool pump regularly.

  • Shock the pool to eliminate contaminants and organic matter.

  • Brush and vacuum the pool walls and floor to remove debris.

  • Use a clarifier or flocculant to help particles clump together for easier removal by the filter.

  • Pool maintenance can vary in difficulty depending on factors like pool size, equipment quality, and environmental conditions.

  • With regular testing, cleaning, and maintenance tasks, keeping a pool clean and properly balanced can be manageable for most homeowners. However, it does require consistent attention and effort.

  • Factors such as sunlight exposure, high temperatures, heavy pool usage, and organic contaminants can deplete chlorine levels more rapidly.

  • Ensuring proper filtration, shock treatments, and maintaining the recommended chlorine level can help address this issue.

Yes, excessive chlorine levels can cause pool water to turn yellow due to the formation of chloramines, especially when combined with organic matter like sweat or urine. This condition is commonly known as “chlorine lock.”

  • Follow any specific maintenance instructions provided by your pool renovation contractor.

  • Test water chemistry regularly and adjust as needed.

  • Monitor the condition of newly applied finishes or equipment for any signs of damage or wear.

  • Educate yourself on basic pool chemistry and maintenance to understand your pool’s needs.

  • Be wary of overselling or aggressive marketing tactics.

  • Consider getting a second opinion or using a trusted testing kit to verify the recommendations provided by the store.

  • Stick to purchasing only the chemicals you know are necessary based on your pool’s test results and maintenance requirements.

Fantastic job, should've done it sooner. Actually tried in January but we border a lake and the water table was too high then, can't risk a pop-up. Even with lake much lower now (May) they ran a pump for 48 hours before draining (and until re-filled), to extract ground water. Was empty no more than 3-4 hours. Acid wash also took care of dirty grey border tile grout , and calcium deposits around spa to pool waterfall. Looks as good as new, see half and half photos. Bright lime green is the acid working. Thank you Calvin!!
